Fran + Luke
June 25, 2022 - Los Angeles, California
“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.” - The first line from Goodfellas and Luke’s vows.
Fran and Luke reached out to me in the late summer of 2021 to snap a few engagement photos. I have known Fran and Luke for years, but I was a little surprised to get the call. During 2020 and the COVID of it all, I had completely missed that they had even gotten engaged! But of course, I said yes, and we had a lovely evening in DTLA documenting their sweet relationship.
I was even more surprised when they called me a few weeks later and asked me to be their wedding photographer. I had shot weddings before, but years and years ago, and Fran and Luke had only ever worked with me on set, a completely different ball game. But I was honored that they trusted me enough to get back in the wedding game.
There couldn't have been a better wedding to be my first one back. Planned by One Darling Day, the wedding took place at The Line LA. It was a beautiful SoCal day; not a cloud in the sky. Bright, acrylic signage by Simply Stated Stationery, welcomed guests and Inessa Nichols Designs filled the space with stunning florals. A unique mix of tropical and local blooms. A delightful contrast to the deep emerald green of the Maid of Honor's dress and the groom's suit. The bride wore a beautiful lace gown from BHLDN.
The ceremony was simple, officiated by Luke's best friend. There was a reading by his younger siblings from the poem "Having a Coke With You" by Frank O'Hara, followed by the couple reading their own vows.
After the ceremony, we only spent a few minutes of posed photography; the bride and groom were keen to get to their party, and I can't blame them! As film folks, they're far more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. It was more important for them to enjoy their day than to pose for me. Which was fine by me! My style has always been more documentary than studio. I love capturing moments as they are and the little surprises between people. And there were countless moments to capture for the rest of the night. From heartfelt speeches to a Blink-182 last song, it was a night to remember, and I am honored to be the one to help everyone remember.
